Coming up: "MONSens - L`art brut d`hier et d`aujourdhui", Musée de Beaux Arts Mons, Belgium 2015

The city of Mons has been chosen to be the next European Capital of Culture, allowing the city of Mons to make its mark on the world stage in 2015.

The exhibition "MONSens, l’art brut d’hier et d’aujourd’hui" is among the projects selected by the Foundation Mons 2015 from 527 unique proposals and taking place at the Musée de Beaux Arts Mons (BAM).

This exhibition offers an approach that is both historic and contemporary while examining the meaning (or «sens» in french) of work created by outsider artists.

The exhibition features work sourced from major European collections of Art Brut and workshops in the region surrounding Mons. In this way "MONSens: l’art brut d’hier et d’aujourd’hui" (Art Brut from Yesterday and Today) highlights the evolution of the gaze focused on Art Brut and challenges the categorizations that have been made over time.

Artworks from Gugging Artists, amongst others Johann Garber, Johann Hauser, Heinrich Reisenbauer, Oswald Tschirtner and August Walla can be seen in Mons from 20th of June until 6th of September.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication.
